For more than 30 years, Selecta has conducted painstaking research to offer its clients raw materials of the highest quality – including meat, seafood products, cheese, cured meats, chocolate, vegetables, spices, cereals and pulses.

The selection of raw materials is carried out with the aim of identifying the best producers in their field, wherever they may be, and conveying the expectations of chefs whilst acquiring a wealth of knowledge to be shared with catering professionals.

The selection of products in the catalogue is made in respect of the company’s underlying values: respect for raw materials, the enhancement of producers’ work and care for the territory of origin, along with transparency along the entire production chain.

Selecta always strives to offer excellent services to its customers, from the constant search for and selection of the best raw materials, advice on the best use of products within a dish or menu, to the daily management of logistical challenges in procuring and delivering raw materials as quickly as possible to restaurateurs.

The foundation

In 1989, Selecta was founded in the province of Ferrara. It immediately established itself as a leader in the selection and distribution of foie gras and poultry.

The first expansion of the range

No longer just foie gras and poultry. In anticipation of the needs of the catering industry, the initial expansion of the range began with the search for and selection of the best and world-class food products.

The new headquarters

With the headquarters transferred to Occhiobello (RO), a more strategic location for logistics, and with a warehouse extending over more than 5,000 square metres, the catalogue references multiply, creating the opportunity to further expand the fisheries business.

Information systems

The process of taking orders with a commitment of goods being in stock becomes computerised. The sales force could now rely on a dedicated portal.

Selecta has opted to be certified for “Food Safety Management Systems – Requirements”, the voluntary international standard for the certification of Food Safety Management Systems.

Selecta distributes BIO-labelled products and has thus achieved organic certification (Regulation EC 834/07 and EC 889/08), guaranteeing the conformity of organic production at all stages of the production chain, including distribution.
